Transporting Your Babydolls

Transporting Your Babydolls

Being that these sheep are small in size, it makes them quite easy to transport! A dog kennel is most ideal. How large of dog kennel will depend on how many lambs you are transporting or if they are still lambs or full grown, and how far you have to travel.

I have easily fit two adult sheep or four lambs in an XXL wire dog crate. The XXL size will fit in the back of a truck box but it will likely be too big to fit inside of the back of a van or SUV for example. If you are hoping to fit a crate inside the vehicle, I would recommend the largest size you can comfortably fit and ensure there is some sort of bottom tray that will catch any poop or pee. Depending how far you have to travel, you may need a tarp or cover for your crate to protect from the sun or other elements.

Another option is to use a truck box topper. If the topper can be securely latched, you can place some straw in the box and transport the lambs easily and they will have shelter from any elements. Of course a trailer could be used but may be a little excessive as these are small animals.

If you are from out of province there are a few different options. You can arrange for lambs to be sent by plane via air cargo out of Saskatoon airport. I also have various contacts in the industry that I can reach out to for trucking transport across Canada. If there are multiple buyers from one area, I can also connect you so that there is the chance you could split transport costs.
